Skimmer Tile Regrout in Houston, TX โ€“ Before & After

This skimmer tile regrout finished a leak repair that started with dye testing earlier the same day. The Houston pool had tight plumbing, so the water was leaving at the tile line.

Here is what we found, what we did, and what the photos show.

What the leak detection found

First, our technician pressure tested every line at 12 psi. All of them held, and the equipment passed too. Next, dye testing found two leak points. One was a hairline crack in the plaster right under the tile. The other was at the skimmer throat, where the tile meets the skimmer opening.

The skimmer tile regrout

Because the spots were exact, the repair stayed small. Our crew cleared the worn grout around the skimmer opening and set fresh grout in its place. Then they repaired the crack below the tile line. There was no digging at all.

Before and after

The before photo shows open, worn grout lines on the tile at the skimmer. In contrast, the after photo shows the same tile with fresh grout closing every joint. The closing note from the crew was short: everything is good.

Fresh grout matters at this spot because the water level rests right there all day. Open joints let water work its way behind the tile, which can loosen the tile over time.
